CHOOSING A NEW POPE

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI, was elected by the Conclave as the 256th pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church.

He was a close associate of Pope John Paul II and presided over the Pope's funeral.
