Bruderhof Communities Bruderhof.com is an online extension of a counter-cultural network of people around the world who are building a new society where there is no money, no unemployment, no bosses, no weapons, no prisons, no retirement and no nursing homes—where war, divorce and abortion are no longer needed. Members abandon careers, pool their possessions and earnings, and commit to one another for life. They are living proof that people from different classes, various religious (and nonreligious) backgrounds and warring nationalities can live together in harmony as brothers and sisters.
Bruderhof.com connects those living in these communal settlements with the hundreds of thousands who share their vision for a just and peaceful world. You’ll find articles and free e-books on social issues, current events, the spiritual life, relationships, children and family, as well as sizzling feedback from other readers around the world. The website’s intent is to support and encourage anyone working for a better world or seeking to follow Jesus more fully; its stated goal is to “challenge assumptions, encourage self-examination, share hope and build community.”
The best way to get in on the action is to sign up for the Daily Dig, a pithy inspirational quote by e-mail to start your day off right (think “caffeine for the conscience”), which links to the day’s featured article.
The Bruderhof movement hosts several other online communities. The Bruderhof Saving Childhood Forum is a discussion board for parents, educators and others who believe children need time and space simply to be children, free from the pressures and influences that await them in our success-driven, image-conscious, materialistic, technological age. The Bruderhof Grief Companion gives grieving people a place to share their loss with others and find words of comfort. The Bruderhof Peacemakers Guide features peacemakers both famous and obscure, and writings that show the power of nonviolence to effect change and resolve conflicts. The Bruderhof Generation Connection encourages more intergenerational interaction by connecting old people with young people though a pen pal program. The Bruderhof Forgiveness Guide is a resource for people who have been wronged and are struggling to overcome resentment, bitterness, hatred or despair. There are also Bruderhof websites in Spanish, German, and Korean.
